The case begins⚖️
A court case begins when someone is accused of breaking the law, or when two people or groups have a legal disagreement. The case is brought before a judge, who makes sure the court follows the correct rules and procedures.
The two sides present their case🔎
In a criminal case, there are usually two main sides: the prosecution and the defence. The prosecution tries to prove that the accused person committed the crime, while the defence represents the accused and tries to show that the prosecution has not proved their case. Both sides can present evidence and question witnesses
The lawyers make their arguments🗣️
The prosecution and defence lawyers explain their arguments to the judge or jury. They use evidence, witness statements and laws to support what they are saying. It is basically a very serious debate—but unfortunately, “trust me bro” is not considered evidence
The judge or jury makes a decision👩⚖️
The judge makes decisions about the law and makes sure the trial is fair. In some criminal cases, a jury listens to the evidence and decides whether the accused is guilty or not guilty. They have to carefully consider the evidence before making their decision.
The court gives the final result🏛️
Once the case is finished, the court gives its decision. If the accused is found guilty, the judge may give them a punishment based on the law. If they are found not guilty, they are not convicted of the crime. And just like that, the courtroom drama is finally over!
